Why is ScreenCoach not working properly on my child’s device?
General Device Health Check (iOS & Android)
If ScreenCoach is not working as expected (apps not blocking, time not tracking, etc.), it is often due to device health or system settings, not the app itself.
Modern devices may limit or stop background apps when resources are low or settings interfere.
🔍 Basic Health Check (All Devices)
Please check the following:
1. Storage Space
- Ensure the device has sufficient free storage
- Low storage can slow down the device and stop background apps like ScreenCoach
- Recommendation: Keep at least 5–10 GB free (or ~10–15%)
2. Operating System Updates
- Make sure the device is running the latest OS version
- Updates fix bugs and improve system stability
📌 After updating, the device will restart — this helps resolve many issues
3. Background App Behavior
- If the device is low on memory or resources, it may:
- Stop ScreenCoach in the background
- Delay blocking or tracking
- This is more common on older or heavily used devices
4. Too Many Apps Running
- Close unused apps running in the background
- Heavy apps (games, video apps) can consume resources and affect performance
Apple Screen Time Conflicts
Some Apple Screen Time settings can interfere with ScreenCoach:
- Turn Downtime OFF
- Remove all App Limits
- Review Always Allowed Apps (keep minimal)
If not using Apple Screen Time, it is best to turn it OFF completely
Permissions Reset (Recommended)
- Go to ScreenCoach → This Device Settings
- Disable Family Controls
- Wait a few minutes
- Re-enable it again
Additional iOS Tips
- Ensure Screen Time PIN is set (to prevent children changing settings)
- Keep Location & permissions enabled
- Restart device after changes
Battery Optimization (Very Important)
Android may stop ScreenCoach to save battery:
- Go to Settings → Apps → ScreenCoach → Battery
- Set to Unrestricted
Background Restrictions
- Add ScreenCoach to “Never Sleeping Apps” (Samsung)
- Disable Adaptive Battery if needed
Permissions
Ensure all required permissions are enabled:
- Accessibility
- Usage Access
- Notifications
- Display over other apps
⚠️ Key Insight
If a device is:
- Low on storage - (Check device storage)
- Running an outdated OS - (Update your OS)
- Restricting background apps (If too many apps are running at the same time)
👉 It can stop ScreenCoach from running, which may result in:
- Apps not being blocked
- Incorrect screen time tracking
- Unexpected behaviour
✅ Final Step
After completing the checks:
- Reopen ScreenCoach
- Re-enable any required permissions
- Test using a quick action (like instant block)
